The US Department of Labor estimates the employment of medical coders and billers to grow 22% through 2022 which is much faster than the average. The healthcare industry is a very stable industry. This is because people will always need to see doctors. Demand will continue to be stimulated by a growing and aging population, longer life spans, and new treatments and procedures. Typically, older age groups require more medical tests and procedures. Job opportunities should be very good, particularly for those with strong computer software skills. Job prospects will be best for those with a certification in health information, such as the RHIT or the CTR.
